participated in United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Global Synthetics
Monitoring: analyses, Reporting and Trends (SMART) Programme Regional Workshop
for East and Southeast Asia held through a webinar from 22
November to 1 December 2021. The UNODC Global SMART Workshop has been aimed to
reporting regional and national synthetic drug situation and responses delivered
by each participating country in conjunction with discussion of the
participants. With opening remarks of Mr. Jeremy Douglas, UNODC Regional Representative
for Southeast Asia and Pacific, the SMART workshop was led by Mr. Inshik Sim, Regional
Coordinator of Global SMART Programme. During the SMART workshop, UNODC gave
briefing on SMART implementation update, the early warning advisory and early
warning systems and regional synthetic drug situation and discussed them with
participants. Among participating countries, China, Brunei Darussalam, Japan, Lao
PDR, Korea, Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Viet Nam, Thailand, Singapore,
Cambodia, Timor-Leste and Myanmar presented their latest trends and noticeable seizures
about illicit drugs. At the workshop, many participants discussed and shared their
viewpoints about the presentation.
Mr. YoungKyoung KIM, Deputy Head of RILO AP introduced our achievement this year combating illicit drugs. He shared the latest seizure trends by drugs type based on CEN data and outcome of the Operation Mekong Dragon III, which was a regional joint operation to target the movement of illicit drugs in Asia and the Pacific. During the presentation, he thanked Member administrations for active participation and collaboration to RILO AP’s activity. Then, Mr. Li Wai Sze, Project Manager of RILO AP introduced ongoing projects such as Crocodile, Sky-Hole-Patching and DSINS Air & Sea and shared analysis and remarkable cases with participants.
